Friday fragrance find: Elizabeth Taylor White diamonds

Oh NO!

I wasn’t going to let today pass without a fragrance find feature atleast not one that features a great female icon.

Who thought celebrity fragrance could turn out to be a classic?

Today’s Friday fragrance features the first of many, while it may not necessarily be the first celebrity fragrance to ever grace the industry it’s the first most successful celebrity fragrance that set the stage for others to follow.

I’m talking about none other than the elizabeth Taylor’s white diamonds. Launched in 1991 at the peak of her popularity and at a time Elizabeth was so known for beauty and style and glamour, and owning a bottle of her scent seemed like you had a bit of her on.

The success it recorded earned the perfume an award for the fragrance of the year in 1992 by the fragrance foundation and later inducted into its hall of fame in 2009. A fragrance empire was born — and the industry of celebrity fragrance hasn’t been the same since.

Said to have been designed herself, a highly floral fragrance that recalls a vintage era of elegance. This isn’t a delicate or subtle fragrance, it’s for a woman who wants people to notice her even before they hear her. It’s starts strong but dries down to a powdery sweetness.

Still commanding sales till date with its right haven been bought by elizabeth Arden after her passing. The company preserves the white diamonds line as a successful fragrance franchise.

In 2011, before her passing Taylor decided to do some good with her success, mandating that 25% of her perfume royalties be donated in perpetuity to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

A beautiful woman, successful actress, philanthropist and a trail blazing celebrity perfumer. What many hats she wore 😊
