Long break
After an unusual break I have understood that it takes more than optimism and passion to make an entrepreneurial endeavor work. You need a road map with clearly defined goals that helps you identify the metrics for success and warns you of dangers that can surely derail you.
I started my online presence with such high hopes but I pivoted ways too many times. My start up was a rebranding (basically having an online presence to increase target audience) of my mums original business so capital wasn’t part of my business structure. I fell into the hype of social media and when I wasn’t experiencing a bump in customers I was discouraged and simply focused on my sales. Today, I feel if I had started with some money, it would have given me the leeway to be more patient and persevering to recognize everything has its own process.
Another issue I battle with is trying to be perfect. I can’t just post a picture of a perfume without thorough research and some personal evaluation. I have to smell it on myself , have someone wear it and then draw my conclusions. Good may be the enemy of great, but trying to be great at everything from the get-go can be toxic for a start up. As much as it’s important to be thorough one thing I realized is it’s better to always be persistent. It can take you further than any quality alone.
Calvin Coolidge once said Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan press on! Has solved and always will solve the problems of human race.
I’m sharing my experience in hope that someone who’s experiencing something similar can understand they aren’t alone and perhaps be pumped to follow up with that idea they once started on. I’m saying to u as I am saying to myself ; I will persist until I succeed, one step at a time, small attempts repeatedly till I make my mark.
There will always be light at the end of the tunnel.
PS: We are back and poised to serve you better.
